  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The main claims is to establish the effect of malnutrition on severity and outcome of malnutrition.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    NA

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    NA

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

    1. The role of antibiotics in a diagnosed case of acute bronchiolitis is questionable.

    2. The severity index of ac bronchiolitis should have been mentioned.

    3. The treatment modality is not clearly mentioned.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

    Yes

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Severity and outcome of acute bronchiolitis depending on the degree of malnutrition. It will reflect the management issues in PICU

What was the indication of starting antibiotics in some cases especially if it was not based on the degree of malnutition.

Malnutrition and Bronchiolitis

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Malnutrition affcts severity / outcome of Bronchiolitis.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    No

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Maybe

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    NA

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    NA

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

The study design needs to improve; though it is a retrospective study, so the title may be changed to "Acute lower  respiratory infection" in place of 'bronchiolitis'. Reasons-

    1. viral assays not done.

    2. Antibiotics given in 42 %, so they maynot be that viral.

    3. As such bronchiolitis is described as OCCURING IN CHUBBY children so question of it being in a malnourished child needs more proof than clinical diagnosis.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

    NA retrospective study

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Average due to inadequate diagnostic criteria for bronchilolitis.
