Thank you for the opportunity to review this interesting manuscript. A lot of animal research and research on plants in being done in South Asia. I have reservations about the outcomes of this type of research.

Only few molecules have been developed from this type of research to the best of my knowledge. The exercise can serve to introduce MD Pharmacology students to animal research. However, I am not convinced that MD Pharmacology students should concentrate so much only on animal research and neglect the clinical areas.

The thesis topics for MD can be reviewed and work of greater clinical and community relevance should be carried out. I feel MD thesis can contribute to information about medicine use in the community and promote rational use of medicines. The paper is well written except a few spacing and punctutation problems. There is an unmet need for newer antiepileptics and I would be happy if a new molecule can be developed for clinical use from this research. I wish the authors all the best in further progress ibn this direction.
