Brief Biography:


BIOGRAPHY BAKR NOUR, MD,PhD,FACS. Graduating in 1974 from the University of Alexandria in Egypt, Dr. Nour obtained his Master’s and Doctorate of Surgery degrees. His basic training was in general and pediatric surgery in Alexandria between 1975 and 1982. He had a pediatric surgery fellowship in the Children’s Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, 1982-1984; and an abdominal organ transplant fellowship with Dr. Thomas Starzl, 1990-1992 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was Assistant Professor of Transplant Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, 1992-1994. He served as a clinical Assistant Professor at the OU college of Medicine, Tulsa and An Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Texas at Arlington, school of Nursing till the end of 2006. Dr. Nour is a member of the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, American Association of the Study of Liver Disease, a fellow of the American college of Surgeons and many other professional associations. He is a founding member of the Small Bowel and Multi-visceral transplant team in Pittsburgh. He is listed in Lexington’s Who is Who Registry and Marquis’ Who is Who in America, Who is Who in Medicine & Healthcare and Who is Who in the World. Dr. Nour served as region IV (Oklahoma & Texas) representative in UNOS and Chairman of the Regional Review Board (1999-2001). He was a member of the board of Directors of Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce (2005-2006). Dr. Nour published over 150 scientific articles and book chapters, mostly on transplantation of the liver, and small bowel and multi-visceral. He authored the Fellows Manual for Pediatric Transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh. He was an invited lecturer in many American and international institutions and meetings Dr. Nour began his career with INTEGRIS Health in May of 1994 as Chief of Pediatric Liver Transplantation and Adult Liver Transplant Surgeon. He Led the Transplantation institute as Director and Chairman, for over 5 years. During his tenure at that capacity, the transplantation institute experienced expansion and financial prosperity & growth. He lobbied successfully to get coverage for adult transplantation by Oklahoma Medicaid, and served as an Ex-Officio of the Transplant Fund (Foundation) raising almost $3.5 millions for the benefit of the Institute. As a transplant surgeon, in Oklahoma, he performed 261 liver transplants; 16% of which were in Children, including a 7 weeks old recipient who is doing well, 6 years later. He also performed the State’s first isolated intestinal transplant and Multi-visceral transplant. Additionally, he assisted in over 300 liver transplant procedures. In January 2007, he joined Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar as the vice Chair of the department of Surgery and the director of the Surgery Clerkship. As a consultant of General Surgery in Hamad Medical Corporation, he started a Hepato-Pancreatico -Biliary surgical service and a Liver Transplant Clinic. His main goal during his tenure in Qatar, in addition to building of a strong academic Department of General surgery for the benefit of the WCMC-Q Medical students,. This department will be engaged in medical education and research. Dr. Nour is working on his dream of establishing a regional multi-organ Transplantation institute to complement and culminate the cooperation between HMC and WCMC-Q.
