Dr. Luis Rojo

Research associate
Dept. Biomaterials. Institute of Polymer Science and Technology

Brief Biography:

My research experience has been gained during the course of my postdoctoral activities as research associate at Imperial College London (UK) and PhD studies at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (Spain). Moreover I have done two shorts stays at the Dental Institute of King’s College University (7 months) and one at the at the University of Federico II (Italy, 2 months). All this work has been carried out in collaboration with different R&D companies and other groups leading the European research frame of biomaterials science. In summary my main research achievements during the last years has been obtaining my PhD degree (Awarded as the best 2008 PhD thesis in chemistry by the Complutense University of Madrid), the publication of 8 scientific papers in high impact journals, the development of 2 patents and 5 “know-how” utility models exploited by a dental company as well as the participation in more than 10 international research projects and the contribution to 15 international conferences. I have also co-supervised the research advances of one PhD student and 4 different postgraduate and undergraduate students. All this experience has demanded to me learning and utilizing advanced synthesis and characterization techniques applicable in the field of polymers and biomaterials sciences as well as on the biological evaluation in the interface between polymeric materials and biological systems for biomedical and tissue engineering applications.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

WebmedCentral publication policies appears as a novel and attractive method of publication without prior peer review but strongly supported by post publication peer review which lead in a very dynamic and democratic publication process. I strongly believe that new philosophies and way of thinking are always welcome in science.
