Brief Biography:


DVM, graduated in 2004 from the University of Brasilia (Brazil). The work since graduation has focused on Epidemiology, Risk Assessment and Infectious Disease Modeling. After graduation, worked for the Federal Government in Brazil, first as a field veterinarian dealing with animal disease surveillance, awareness and training; and later in the headquarters managing and analyzing Epidemiological information. In the latter, worked in animal disease surveillance systems, freedom of disease certification and outbreak control. Following the growing interest in quantitative methods in animal health, recently graduated with a Master of Science focused in epidemiology and infectious disease modeling. After graduation worked in the data analyses of a five year project studying the vertical transmission of Salmonella sp. in commercial broiler integrations; and in the development of a risk assessment to estimate the risk of exposure of duck hunters to avian influenza viruses. The current PhD project focuses on the early detection of diseases, and aims at developing a veterinary syndromic surveillance system using laboratory data.

Masters in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Georgia, USA - finished in 2009.

PhD Student in Epidemiology at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada
