5700 Martin Luther king Jr way

Brief Biography:

I did my PhD in Life Science from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science, Lucknow India. Then, I received my Postdoctoral training at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute, Oakland, USA.

Sphingolipids are essential structural constituents of plasma membrane of all eukaryotic organisms. Besides structural roles, sphingolipid metabolites such as sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and ceramide are highly potent signaling molecules. S1P plays a critical role in several physiological processes including lymphocyte trafficking, vascular development, inflammation, muscle regeneration and tumorigenesis, hence regulation of S1P synthesis and degradation is of utmost important. I am working on an enzyme, called as S1P lyase which degrades sphingosine-1-phosphate into a long-chain aldehyde and phosphoethanolamine. This enzyme plays an important role in development, reproduction, T cell trafficking and cancer.
