Dr. Michelangelo Bortolin

Brief Biography:


Dr. Bortolin is a physician, currently working for the Servizio Emergenza Territoriale 118 of Torino (Emergency Medical Services 118 - Torino, Italy) as emergency physician and as expert for the Disaster Preparedness and Response Committee in the EMS 118 Regione Piemonte.

Dr. Bortolin is working in the academic field as Adjunct Professor at the University of Milan (Italy) and University of Torino (Italy) and Lecturer in Disaster Medicine at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan (Italy).

He is working in Primary Care, Pre-hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine already for several years and he gained a profound experience. He attended the European Master in Disaster Medicine (EMDM) of the University of Novara, Italy and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. After this, for several months he was Research Fellow in Disaster Medicine / EMS in the Disaster Medicine Section of the Harvard Medical School in Boston (MA, USA) with the Professor Gregory R. Ciottone. At the moment, he is Faculty Member of the Disaster Medicine Section of the Harvard Medical School and Member of the Disaster Medicine Section of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM).

Dr. Bortolin is working with several international experts and he did a lot of research and publications. One of the most important, but not the only one, is published in 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO) “Hospital emergency response checklist – An all-hazards tool for hospital administrators and emergency managers”, WHO Regional Office for Europe, World Health Organization 2011.

In the February and March 2012 he was invited by the Special Agency for the Management & Implementation of Research, Technological Development & Innovation Actions, a Greek governmental agency under the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs, to act as independent expert for the evaluation of Science & Technology proposals submitted.
