Prof. Mohammad Faridi

Brief Biography:


Dr M.M.A. Faridi (MD,DCH,MNAMS,FIAP) having trained in Neonatology from University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, is a Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, and I/C Division of Neonatology, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi University and GTB Hospital Delhi, India, and is a well renowned Neonatologist of repute.

He was selected on Government of India deputation to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal in 1995-97 to help establishing Department of Pediatrics and organizing undergraduate teaching-training. In the year 2007-09, he was invited on deputation to Era’s Lucknow Medical College, Lucknow as Principal, Dean, Chief Medical Superintendent and Professor of Pediatrics to commencing postgraduate training.

Dr Faridi is a National Resource Person to Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Aids Control Organization, Ministry of Women and Child Development, National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, Government of Delhi, WHO, UNICEF, IBFAN, WABA, BPNI, USAID, Plan India, Care India and GFATM.

Dr Faridi has been invited as Infant & Young Child Feeding Counseling (IYCF) Consultant by the UNICEF and WHO to Ministry of Population and Public Health, Yemen; Ministry of Public Health, Timor-Leste and Ministry of Health, Afghanistan. WHO trained him in Complementary Feeding Counseling at Decca, Bangladesh and nominated him as Observer to Integrated IYCF Counseling Course Validation Workshop in Manila, Philippines. He has vast faculty experience of T-O-T in IYCF Counseling and has trained Master Trainers, IYCF Counseling Specialists, Infant Feeding & HIV Counselors and Community Health Workers from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Laos PDR, Iran, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste and Yemen besides many states in India.

Dr Faridi is a National Faculty for Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Essential District Newborn Care Program, and Facility Based Newborn Care Program and WHO/UNICEF Course Director of IYCF Counseling Training Course. Being invited as Visiting Professor to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Dharan, Nepal and Ali Yavarjung National Institute of Hearing Handicaps, New Delhi, he is a nominated member on the Board of Studies, JN Medical College, AMU Aligarh and member of the institutional Ethics Committees of Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Sharda
Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Noida. He is Medical Council of India Inspector for postgraduate courses in Pediatrics and examiner of undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in Pediatrics to several universities in India and Nepal.

Dr Faridi holds important assignments in the academic organizations as a Zonal Coordinator [North Zone] for Postgraduate Quiz Competition organized by Indian
Academy of Pediatrics and Divisional Coordinator of Postgraduate Quiz Competition which is organized by National Neonatology Forum. He has also been appointed evaluator and judge for the award papers by these bodies. He has developed a CD on neonatal resuscitation which is immensely liked by the students and practitioners alike. He has also developed some videos on expression of breast milk and cup feeding which have been incorporated in the training tools developed on behalf of the Government of India on IYCF Counseling.

Dr Faridi has written several chapters in the textbooks of Pediatrics and published more than130 articles in the national and international journals. He has guided about 50 postgraduate and PhD students for theses research work. Recently he is engaged in a multi centric trial on live hepatitis A vaccine in India.

Dr Faridi has excellent academic record. It can be judged by the fact that he is a Reviewer for International Breastfeeding Journal, Human Vaccine,  Vaccine, Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, African Medical Journal, and Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine, (All International journals); Indian Pediatrics, Indian Journal of Pediatrics, Indian Journal of Medical Research, Journal of Emergency Pediatrics and Section Editor for Neonatology in Pediatrics Today. Having membership of prestigious academic bodies, he is a Fellow of Indian Academy of Pediatrics and WHO Course Director of Infant & Young Child Feeding Counseling Course. He has several Gold Medals, State Citation and other awards to his credit for distinguished services in Neonatology and Pediatrics.

Dr Faridi has been President of Aligarh Medicos Association (2002) and Indian Academy of Pediatrics Delhi State Branch (2006). Currently he is a President, National Neonatology Forum, Delhi State.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:


The idea seems revolutionary. However, its effectiveness as a knowledge propagating tool will be known after scientists are sensitized, and they express their opinion.
