Brief Biography:

I received a PhD from the University of Western Ontario and completed post-doctoral training at the Institute Curie in Paris, and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.  I am a scientist at the Alberta Diabetes Institute and Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Medical Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Alberta. Our studies involve collaborations with basic and clinical investigators in Canada and internationally.

Academic positions:

Associate Professor, Departments of Surgery and Medical Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Alberta; Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Senior Scholar; Director, immunology core, Alberta Diabetes Institute

Research interests:

My primary focus is on Immunology research, in the areas of tolerance, autoimmunity and transplantation immunology. My lab has contributed to defining the mechanisms of immune tolerance and development of tolerance inducing protocols. Our studies have identified an important role for passenger lymphocytes and chimerism in transplant tolerance and immunity and provided insights into the role of ‘co-inhibitory’ receptors in immune control.
