The interaction of sport and inflammation has been thoroughly reviewed but is far from being fully understood due to the diversity of sport modalities (duration, intesity, etc), streching the importance of contributions like this article.
The authors were successfull on the choice of the model, which is simple, but relevant.
Despite the answer to the question proposed by the authors being well defined, further studies should consider alternative methods to measure immune system activation other than plasma cytokine concentration. Even though cytokines are classical markers of immune system activation, they are found in very low concentrations, making their quantitation an issue sometimes. Also, factors difficult to control like hydration level of the subjects can lead to innacurate observations.
The article is relevant due to its originality. It will definitely add to the knowledge of the field.
