  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the prevalence of breast pain, etiology, and associated pattern of healthcare utilization.

The authors assessed th etiology of breast pain by distributing a questionnaire to patients presently with breast pain over a 3 month period. The authors concluded that breast pain is a common condition. However, the etiology of breast pain remains unclear. A large number of patients with breast pain had other pain syndromes. They cite a recent study which suggests an association between mastalgia and fibromyalgia.
