Eggplant and melanoma - New perspectives
Posted by Prof. Valcinir Bedin on 12 Jul 2013 12:55:59 AM GMT

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The main claims are the use of a hydroalcoholic extract and its anticancer activity.

They are important because it represents a new perspective in the treatment of melanoma.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

The protocol provided is well placed.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

Yes, the methodology is valid and can be reproduced.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

As the author stands more worl should be done to improve this sublject.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Yes, specially in a world where expensive drugs are  launched in a progressive way, it is very welcome this type of paper.

  • Other Comments:

I would like to ask the authors to publish any results they have, even in the middle of the work, because every information about this is very important.

    I have some suggestions-

    1. This is a good study in treatment of melanoma
    2. Various plant extracts are used in various disciplines of medicine in treatment of various illnesses in India for many years.
    3. This study mentions about some selective benefits of theses fruit extracts in treatment of melanoma
    4. We need to study its efficacy in animals & humans eventually for actual benifits in melanoma treatment.
    5. The duration, side effects & cost also needs to be studied.
    6. Discussion could have been more detailed.

Yes, as it opens a new dimension in treatment of melanoma
