Research interests:

Dr. Chanana is interested in understanding the role of ion transporter proteins (sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter, sodium/proton exchanger, and sodium/calcium exchangers) in ionic dysregulation and neurodegeneration associated with stroke and hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. In particular, they study how changes of cytosolic ionic concentrations (Na+, H+, Ca2+) as well as organelle Ca2+ (ER and mitochondria) cause nerve cell death and pro-inflammatory responses in ischemic brains. Dr. Chanana is also interested in the role of gender differences, neurotrophic signaling and microglia/macrophages subsequent to hypoxia ischemia with an aim to find novel therapy for brain strokes.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

this is a great platform to serve science in its true sense. I have seen eminent scientists as its members which itself speak volumes about quality and insight. It is a great source to give back to science. I am all up and excited to join.
