Dr. Sachil Shah MD

Brief Biography:

Dr Shah’s education began in one of the oldest most prestigious private schools in the United Kingdom; Loughborough Grammar School where he attained the highest grades possible and was top of his class. He continued his higher education at the University of Birmingham Medical School where he began his research career conducting in vivo studies on murine renal physiology earning him the coveted JH Sheldon Prize. He was awarded the Edward Boyle Memorial Trust Prize in 2002 for his research proposal looking at visual function in age-related macular degeneration, which was conducted at the world-renowned Lions’ Eye Institute in Perth, Australia. His work was presented at the Royal Australian Congress Of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, which would be the first of a long line of national and international scientific meetings recognizing his contribution to the field of medicine. In 2004, Dr Shah earned his medical degree with honours and was awarded full membership to the General Medical Council. In 2005 he joined the University of Leicester Family Physician Residency Program, which he completed in 2008 after which he was awarded Membership to the Royal College of General Practitioners an honour given only to those demonstrating excellence in the field of Family Medicine. Dr Shah began working as a family physician in his hometown of Leicester and continued his research by being selected to be an honorary member of the Institute for Lung Health at the Glenfield Hospital in United Kingdom. Dr Shah worked on sputum samples from difficult asthma patients forming an extensive molecular and biological database that culminated in breakthroughs in the understanding of severe asthma patients, with his data being presented in numerous national and international meetings. In 2010, Dr Shah joined the University of Miami Internal Medicine Program to complete a three-year residency in Internal Medicine. In addition to learning the art of internal medicine, he began conducting research in cardiovascular disease an area that University of Miami is well regarded. His research topics include electrocardiographic changes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement, the obesity paradox and healthcare disparities in ethnic minorities. He is also working closely with the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute looking at the use of stem cell therapy to improve symptoms in patients with heart failure. As well as the high level of research, Dr Shah is has been ranked number one from his program of 66 residents two years in a row. He is a member of numerous editorial boards such as Accdon and Dynamed, and has reviewed multiple articles for peer-reviewed journals such as Annals of Internal Medicine, British Journal of General Practice and Journal of American Board of Family Medicine.
