Prof. Tarek Naguib

Brief Biography:

Tarek Naguib, MD, MBA, FACP is a graduate of Cairo University School of Medicine in 1981 who recieved his post graduate training in OUHSC in Oklahoma. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the specialty of internal medicine and also is certified and recertified by the same board in the subspecialties of infectious disease and nephrology. He has been elected as a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1999 and received his MBA degree in healthcare by the George Washington University School of business in 2007. Besides his 17 years in clinical practice and teaching in the infectious disease and nephrology specialties, he has over 12 years experience as a hospital epidemiologist. He was awarded a national leadership award by the AMA foundation in 2007 and was placed on the Best Doctor in America database in 2009-2013.

Research interests:

Clinical studies in infectious disease and nephrology espcially case reports, electrolytes, and stone disease.

In infectious disease field: Reported cases in Nocardia brasiliensis brain abscess, cryptosporidiosis-induced pneumatosis intestinalis, cytomegalovirus-induced polyradiculomyelitis, and mycobacterim kansasii sinus invasion.

In the nephrology field: Reported cases of combined pseudohypocalcemia and pseudo hyperkalemia and effect of liposomally complexed Amphotericin B on transplanted kidney with chronic disease.

Clinical Trial: Double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial of intravenous magnesium sulfate for foscarnet-induced ionized hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia in patients with AIDS and cytomegalovirus infection.

In vitro microbiology work: Mupirocin resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus from a veteran's hospital.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

An idea worth pursuing. It will be very successful if the peer review is objective and effective.

There could be also an added forum for critical reviews of landmark literature to be submitted by interested authors. Lead medical journals typically do not have space to discuss the recently published literature, esp. if it is critical literature.
