Brief Biography:

I am a 1986 graduate of Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia Pa. I subsequently trained in Internal Medicine, and Neurology at Hahnemann and Georgetown University. From 1991-1993 I was a critical care fellow at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. I practiced Neurologic Critical Care at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia Pa, were I was involved with teaching neurology residents and Neurosurgical residents from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. I then became a fellow at the National Institutes of Health which lead to board certification in pulmonary disease. From 1999-2012 I was a partner in Pulmonary Associates, a large group practice serving Northern Delaware. Our group provided pulmonary and critical care medicine coverage to Christiana Care Hospital, a large teaching hospital in Newark Delaware, affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. I served nearly 5 years as Medical director of the ICU at Christiana. I also helped create the Nutrition support team and am currently co-director of the team. In 2012 Our group was purchased by the health system and I became director of Medical ICU research. For the last 14 years I have been PI or Sub I for a large number of industry sponsored clinical trials in critical care. I continue to be involved in clinical trials, but more recently have also been engaged in increasing the activity of our house staff in clinical research. I have also been working with VISICU Phillips Telemedicine program, to monitor and improve our sedation practices and delirium treatment in the Intensive care unit at Christiana and other hospitals served by VISICU

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

I think this is the future of biomedical publication. It will allow more and broader feedback of clinical research, and will address the problem that a large number of clinical studies are never published because of various forms of publication bias. For example it is well described that negative studies are significantly less likely to be published as opposed to positive studies. The concept of Webmed Central is one answer to this.
