Dr. Anas Yahaya

Brief Biography:


My names are Anas Ibrahim Yahaya, born in Bichi Local Government Area, Kano, Kano State Nigeria, on 2ND June 1969. I completed an MBBS degree from the University of Ilorin and had Master degree in Anatomy at the College of Health Science Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. I was formally with Katsina State general hospital before being transferred to Malumfashi general hospital. I worked with the National Orthopedic Hospital Dala before joining Anatomy department, Faculty of Medicine, Bayero University Kano in December 2000. I have been teaching Embryology, Gross Anatomy, Histology and Osteology to both Medical and Physiotherapy students of Bayero University Kano for about 12 years now. I also taught medical and Medical laboratory Science students of the college of health sciences Usmanu Danfodiyo University Kano. I served in many departmental, faculty and university committees and currently a member of Bayero university senate. I also served as a member of the Kano state Emergency preparedness and response to epidemics committee. I was former PRO and deputy secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kano State branch and also former PRO and active member of the National body of Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA). I was the pioneer and presenter of the popular Hausa City Television (CTV) Programme called ‘Halittar Dan Adam’ where I was teaching my immediate community human morphology in a simple terms. I have more than fifteen (15) publications in various Journals of National and International repute in the field of Anatomy (see CV). My forthcoming books include: Multiple choice questions and answers (MCQ) in Anatomy with over 3000 options, Systemic Embryology questions and answers for medical students (Vol. II), Basic Histology book and atlas, and Essay questions and answers in Anatomy for medical students. Also I am among the authors of the forthcoming departmental dissection manual. I am married with one wife and three children. Currently, I am a 2nd year PhD student in Anthropology department, University College London. My thesis title is: QUANTIFICATION OF DIFFERENCES IN THE LEVELS OF FACIAL ASYMMETRY AMONGST HAUSA ETHNIC GROUP IN NIGERIA: CORRELATION ON SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS AND MEDICAL HISTORY.
 

Academic positions:


1. Lecturer in Anatomy department, Faculty of Medicine, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. 2. Demonstrator in Anatomy department, University College London. 3. 2nd year PhD student in Anthropolgy department, University College London.
 

Research interests:


1. Facial Asymmetry: I am looking into the effects of socioeconomic status and medical history on facial asymmetry and quantify diffences in the levels of the asymmetry between right and left sides of the face. 2. Anthropometry of bones and its relations to forensic anthropology
