Brief Biography:


My names are Saka Saheed BABA presently a Professor of Virology and Consultant Virologist at University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Nigeria. I was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. I graduated DVM (1983), MSc Virology (1987) and PhD Virology (1991) from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. I had my postdoctoral research training in Neurovirology at Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada (1992-1994), in Fish Virology at Norwegian College of Vet. Medicine, Oslo, Norway (1996) and I was a ‘TWAS Associate Member and Visiting Professor at CINVESTAV, Mexico (1998-2001). I started my academic career at University of Maiduguri in 1985 and became a Professor of Virology in 1998 and was the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria between 2004 and 2006. I was Visiting Professor and Director, Chevron Biotechnology Centre, Federal University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria (2007-2008). I am actively involved in researches on viral diseases of animals and human as well as extension services. I have to my credit over eighty publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in addition to many others presented at learned national and international conferences. I am a member of many professional bodies including, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (since 1983), Nigerian Society of Immunology (since 1991), World Poultry Association (since 2004), Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (since 2006), International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) [since 2007], Association of Nigerian Professors (since 2007), American Society for Microbiology (since 2008), Member, American Society for Virology (since 2009), European Society for Virology (since 2010),International Society of Camelid Research and Development (ISOCARD) [since 2010]E-Affiliate Member, Society for Applied Microbiology (since 2010), , Veterinary Council of Nigeria (since 2004), Senate, College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (2006) to mention a few. My academic pursuits have provided me with opportunities of training and research visits to many countries including Canada, USA, UK, Denmark, Norway, France, Israel, Mexico, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin. I continue to be actively involved in academic and professional activities as well as in University administration.
