Brief Biography:


Professor Jin Gao (BDS; MSc, PhD) has engaged a long term goal in the development of early diagnostic and biotherapeutic tools for cancer and bone metastasis, challenging outcomes of signaling pathways of cancer stem cells in oral cancer, as well as in oral health related research into the linkage of periodontitis and cardiovascular disease and education. Dr Gao received numerous NHMRC awards including Med/Dental Scholarship, Peter Doherty Fellowship, Visiting Fellowship and Travel Award, Australia-China Fellowship. Dr Gao was selected as the grant review panel member for NHMRC and ADRF. Dr Gao successfully supervised postgraduates, overseas Visiting Research Fellows and Clinical Specialist Trainees in research program. He has numerous publications in Cancer & Metastasis Review, Oncology Report, Head & Neck, International J of Oncol, Pathol, Prostate, Blood and J of Dental Res, etc. He serves as Journal Reviewers for International J of Cancer, Annals Surgical Oncol, Oral Oncol, J of Periodont, Australia Dental J and J of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, etc. He was invited to give talks in national and international conferences and seminars, and as session Chairs and conference convenors.

Dr Gao is a registered Dentist under the limited conditions with AHPRA. He is a Fellow of International Association of Oral Oncology, Members of International Association of Oral Pathology, and of International Association of Dental Research. He has taken opportunities to communicate with others regarding the improvement of teaching and research through attendance national and international conferences. Dr Gao is a Professor in Oral Pathology & Oral Biology at James Cook University leading in the oral cancer screening program, also chairing in the establishment of Oral Cancer Research Centre in the new Dental School for the improvement of oral health for all people including the indigenous region of Northern Queensland. To continue his current research, Prof Gao has actively collaborations with Cairns Base Hospital, PA Hospital Head & Neck Surgery Unit, QIMR and UQ, Griffith and QUT in Queensland. Prof Gao is racing with time and tireless working to achieve his goal. Dr Gao also has extensive interests in music and sports of fishing, martial arts, shooting, table-tennis and volleyball, as well as in community service.

Research interests:


mechanisms of head and neck cancer progression, particularly in the initiation of cancer stem cells, signalling pathways, eg epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT); early diagnostic biomarkers; anti-cancer biotherapy and development of anti-cancer drugs, eg Chinese herb medicine; in vitro cell cultrue and in vivo animal models; cascades of transforming growth factor-beta 1 and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) in the progression of head & neck cancers and metastasis. In addition to periodontal bio-engineering and higher education in dentistry.

 

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:


encourage medical scientists and practioners to have network in terms of using translation medicine approaches. also encourgae junior-mid career Scientists to submit manuscripts in the wedmedcentral to share their new ideas and outcomes of the research achievement.
