Brief Biography:


I have been associated with The Aga Khan University since 1987. Currently I am working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. I have graduated in 1977 from Dow University of Health Sciences and thereafter did my postgraduate training and achieved DCH, MCPS and FCPS. I have done a certificate course in Promoting Excellence in Teaching General Practice with collaboration of Royal College of General Practitioners UK and Department of Family Medicine, The Aga Khan University. I am also serving as a Director Undergraduate Program of the Department of Family Medicine. My responsibility is to facilitate year 3 and 5 coordinators in refining the course/module, to facilitate them in conducting end of term examinations, in assessment process and final professional examination. I have been closely involved in developing the New Curriculum for Year 3 and Year 5 Family Medicine clerkship. I have also involved in preparing problem based vignettes for PBL curriculum and interactive tutorials to generate discussions in the topics of common day to day ambulatory problems. I have provided continuous conceptual feedback and input in designing Geriatric Curriculum for undergraduates. I have participated in validating teaching/learning strategies to ensure deeper learning among the undergraduates and postgraduates. I am also supervising eight residents in postgraduate training program of the department of Family Medicine. My responsibility is to help them to sharpen their clinical reasoning and application of knowledge and help them to develop a research question, proposal writing and finally thesis write up. I am examiner, paper setter and assessor of the national board examinations for the postgraduate trainees. I have received 10 years and 20 years excellence in service award from The Aga Khan University. My subject of interest is Mental Health, Women and Child Health and Non-communicable Diseases. I have extensive research experience as independent researcher and faculty. I have received “Bursary Awards” for the WONCA 2008 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference and also for 17th WORLD CONFERENCE of Family Doctors. I am a recipient of two University Research Council Grants for community based research projects from The Aga Khan University as Principle investigator / Co - Principal investigator. I have published over 20 papers as principal author in indexed medical journals and over 15 papers as principal author in local journals. I have been invited for write-up of a book chapter by Elsevier Academic Press which has been published. I have published several protocol/guidelines on common ambulatory problems for Family Physicians for their quick reference. I am also one of the editor and author of a chapter of The Aga Khan University Internship Manual. I have been also invited for write up of a chapter for “Primary Care Mental Health Clinics Manual” from Wonca Working Party on Mental Health. I have got opportunity to attend several International and National scientific conferences where over 15 research presentations were presented at International level and over 25 research presentations at National level. I have been invited as an Invited speaker at International and National Scientific conferences and also invited to Chair, Co-chair sessions at these Conferences. I am a reviewer of several International and National peer-reviewed scientific journals. I am a member of Editorial Board of very high repute international medical journals “Diabetes and Lipid Research”- Dove Medical Press, Auckland, New-Zealand.
