Dr. Sonya Hardin

Brief Biography:

Dr. Sonya R. Hardin received her PhD from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, MSN & BSN from the University of NC at Charlotte, and completed a Post Doc at the University of NC at Chapel Hill. She is a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner and received her training at East Carolina University. She holds a MBA/MHA from Pfeiffer University and has held various hospital based administrative positions.

She is currently employed as a Professor in the College of Nursing at East Carolina University, Greenville NC and volunteers one day a week as a nurse practitioner in a neurology clinic where she sees clients diagnosed with stroke, Lymes, Alzheimer, Parkinson and seizure disorders.

She is known nationally for her work with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and has served on numerous task forces for the AACN including those focused on the development of the AACN Synergy Model, the AACN Study of Practice and most recently the task force to revise the Standard of Practice for Critical Care Nursing and acute care nurse practitioners. She is currently the geriatric column editor  of Critical Care Nurse and a reviewer for the Journal of Gerontological Nursing, Heart and Lung and Journal of Geriatric Research.

She is the co-author of the books titled Synergy for Clinical Excellence: The AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care and Critical Care Nursing: Optimal Patient Outcomes and Cardiac Surgery.
