Brief Biography:


Professor Rringo’s formal education is as follows:

1980 cand. mag (bachelor) after four years of study in biology, chemistry and mathematics at University of Bergen and University of Tromsø, Norway.

1982 cand. real (master thesis) after two years of study at Norwegian College of Fishery Science, University of Tromsø, Norway. The thesis had the title “Amino acid and lactate catabolism in trimethylamine-oxide respiration of Alteromonas putrefaciens NCMB 1735”.

1994 Doctor philosophiae. The thesis had the title “Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus (L.), reared in fresh and sea water. An experimental study of lipid digestion and intestinal microflora. Norwegian College of Fishery Science, University of Tromsø, Norway.

Dr. Ringø is professor at Norwegian College of Fishery Science, Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics, University of Tromsø. Norway. Ringø has scientific experience in microbial ecology, lipid nutrition and electron microscopy in various species of marine fish larvae and fry and freshwater fish species since 1982.

Research interests:


Current research projects are on: [1] the effect of dietary manipulations on bacteria colonisation of the gastrointestinal tract, [2] the effect of dietary manipulation on fish health and disease resistance, [3] translocation of indigenous and pathogenic bacteria across the gut wall and [4] gut microbiota and the mucosal immune system.
