MD, PhD Neuroscience
shiraz university of medical sciences
Department of Neuroscience, School of Advanced Medical Sciences and Technologies, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences

Brief Biography:

Mohammad Torabi Nami is a medical doctor graduated from Fars Province Medical University in Iran, 2004. Following completion of a research and post-doctoral training course in the American University of Beirut in 2006 he pursued his career in neuroscience. He holds PhD in neuroscience from the Institute for Cognitive Science Studies in Tehran. He has also been granted an associate degree of neuroscience from the California Southern University, since Oct. 2010. He is currently assistant professor of neuroscience at the Department of Neuroscience, School of Advanced Medical Science and Technologies, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Iran. His areas of research have been:
• Neuro-cognitive burden of sleep deprivation,
• Sleep , biorhythms and neuro-cognitive functions,
• Neuro-degeneration and brain circuitries ( Alzhiemer’s and Parkinson’s)
• Exploring the linkage between common abnormal findings in sleep testing (mainly PSG) with cognition including vigilant attention, learning, memory, reasoning, planning, decision making and executive functions.
Further to completion of over 10 formal courses on neuroscience and sleep medicine in European, Asian and American programs over the past years, he has passed through a clinical fellowship on sleep medicine at the Sleep Disorders Unit of the American Hospital, Koc Foundation, in Istanbul Turkey, Aug-Sep 2013.
Several communications on neuroscience and sleep medicine have been moderated by him in well-known national and international events.
He is the chief editor of the Neuroscience Research Letters Journal bioinfo and serves as the editorial board member of some other international peer-reviewed neuroscience journals such as Basic and Clinical Neuroscience-TUMS and WMC-BRAIN.
He is the president of IBRO-APRC alumni chapter since the 2nd Tehran IBRO school of Neuroscience, May 2012.
He has published over 30 papers and three books in the field of sleep and neuroscience.

Research interests:

  • Basic and clinical  (translational) neuroscience
  • Neuro-cognitive disorders | cognitive studies
  • Neuro-cognitive burden of sleep deprivation
  • Sleep , biorhythms and neuro-cognitive functions
  • Neuro-degeneration and brain circuitries ( Alzhiemer’s and Parkinson’s)
  • Neurophysiological findings in total vs. chronic sleep deprivation in animal models also in MS, Alzheimer’s, depression and movement disorder patients.
  • Efficacy of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in symptomatic and neuro-cognitive improvement in major depressive disorder patients.

  • Exploring the extent of adverse effect of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Shift-Work on different aspects of neuro-cognitive functions including vigilant attention, learning, memory, reasoning, planning, decision making and executive functions.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

A very neat idea which helps overcoming hurdles in biomedical publication process.
