Previously, we examined the degenerated figures of mouse lumbar DRG neurons after neonatal capsaicin treatment. The apoptotic figures were scarcely seen in the capsaicin-treated DRGs from 1 h to 72 h (Acta Neuropathol., 1989; Exp. Brain Res., 1994). The apoptotic figures were also scarcely seen by TUNEL method well used for detection of apoptosis (Anat. Sci. Int., 2002). Next, we used the method of agarose gel electrophoresis to detect DNA (harvested from the trigeminal ganglion cells of rats) fragmentation due to apoptosis induced by capsaicin injection (50mg/kg). However, the DNA ladder formation was not seen 24 h after neonatal capsaicin injection. The data were not open for a couple of years, because of a few questions; we expexted to appear DNA ladder. Although, we had not time to examine repeatdly or by any toher methods, in this time, we are sure the results of our studies. So we desire to publish in WebmedCentral TOXICOLOGY. Our manuscript would never be published in the peer review journals. We do not deny the apoptotic cell death by the actions of capsaicin. It may be occur by lower dose of capsaicin injection or by using different animal species.
