Its an educative paper. As elucidated in the paper, some articles would have been omitted because of the search terms and search criteria used. However its a worthy informative work and ought to be published. Research is critical to efficient patient care.

I am an obstetrician/gynaecologist; concluded the residency programme years ago and know that research is imperative to good clinical care as well to answering questions in everyday practice. All the current evidence based care thats the standard of practice today, only came about through research!

As mentioned in the article, residency is a stage of graduate medical training that is necessary to practice medicine. Most of residents are focused on the clinical skils. In fact, large universities really have more workforce, more financial resources and provide protected time for their faculty to do research and publish. Many residents in smaller colleges also join in researches. However, they have less opportunity to gain the finacial resources and publish their results. Sometimes, they published the results by other supports. So, the methods using "

The name of the residency program sponsor or hospital" to search in PUBMED may leave out many publications.

very interesting article. I find this very unusual that research is not mandatory for doctors in ob/gyn residency programs.

In saudi arabia all residents are expected to perform research before appearing for their board examination. This is the case also for Arab board.

The article is limited as the author outlined by the limitation of the search to only pubmed. However, overall it is very interesting to see the huge variation in the number of publications from different institution.
