  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The authors aim to present the dental manifestations of celiac disease.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    No

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Yes

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

    No

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Yes- it would be a great seminar for all practicing dentists.

  • Other Comments:

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder which leads to the blunting and loss of the villi of the small intestines.  It is stated, in this article, that the clinician can detect certain pathological oral manifestations which might advance the diagnosis for celiac disease.  When these manifestations are found in children, it can lead to an early possible diagnosis.

Major dental clinical pathological manifestation of celiac disease
Posted by Dr. Nooshin Bagherani on 24 Nov 2013 09:18:34 PM GMT Reviewed by WMC Editors

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

In this paper, most important oral manifestations of celiac disease have been gathered. The title of the manuscript is not complete. Indeed, it has not introduced the whole subjects gathered in this paper. The dental involvement is only a small part of the statements given in this article. It could be better to use "oral" instead of "dental" in title.

Oral manifestations of celiac disease have some similarities to other autoimmune diseases involving the oral cavity and overlap with them. Hence, we should keep in mind the probable diagnosis of celiac disease in facing to these diseases.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

No, this is not a novel subject. The following are some articles have worked on this subject:

The frequency of oral manifestations in celiac disease can be an important subject for study.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

This manuscript is only a kind of review article which have given simple information of only some oral manifestations of celiac. This information is not appropriate per se. When it can be beneficial, the incidence and prevalence of these manifestations were stated. Additionally, the differentiation of theses autoimmune diseases with oral manifestations of celiac could be given.

It can be presented in a seminar for medical students.

    Its language needs some revision.
