  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Histopathology based diagnosis with CT findings support

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

Immunohisto chemisry might have been added.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    Doesnot arise

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Yes

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

Immuno histochemistry could have been done

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

    Not necessarily

  • Other Comments:

Many cases have been reported as bleeding polypus of the nasal septum

To call it i n terms nasopharyngel angiofibroma, there is no mention about torrential bleeding

Nasal Angiofibroma - A Rare Presentation
Posted by Dr. John Mathew on 22 Jul 2013 04:33:58 PM GMT

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

A differential diagnosis of angiofibroma should be considered for any patient coming with complaints of nasal mass and spontaneous, recurrent epistaxis irrespective of age, sex, site of origin and extension of the mass.An unusual tumour in a middle aged female, in an unusual site. These features are unusual as typically angiofibromas are found in boys in their teens, and it is nasopharyngeal in location.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

Though it is unusual, there are some artilces available similar to this case.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes, however, there are some more artcles relevant to this case report, like:

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes, it does.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    NA

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    NA

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

    NA

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

This diagnosis should be considered in anyone,  irrespective of age or sex, with nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Hence a good reminder to all clinicians.

  • Other Comments:

An unusual presentation of angiofibroma, worth keeping in mind as a differential diagnosis in any patient with nasal obstruction and epistaxis.
