  • Other Comments:

Pegylated interferon alpha 2a and 2b were initially developed to maintain an adequate systemic level of the cytokine during antiviral treatment to enhance treatment successful rates. In addition, based on viral knietic study results, a steep decline of hepatitis C viral load during the first phase from interferon predicts complete viral eradication. Therefore, I doubt the strategy proposed by the author pointing to the right direction.

The author mentioned 50% of patients developed relapse. This number is too high.

The author also mentioned that patients failed to respond to antiviral treatments "inevitably" progress to cirrhosis and its complications. At the same time, the author stated that 20% patients with hepatitis C in the United States progress to cirrhosis. Therefore, the word "inevitably" seems being inappropriately used.

The word "tachyphylaxis" was mistyped several times in the article.

Dr Pan does not discuss or comment the arguments that convinced me that interferon is misused, he simply states without giving any evidence that the presently used protocol is the best. He also does not comment the fact that I have cured changing the protocol two persons with relapsed hepatitis C which is almost uncurable . This result is statisticaly significant because I have treated only two persons and both were cured a result that is impossible to obtain for a fortuitous event. I am also surprised that the reviewer has not publications in the same or a related area of science . Sincerely your Giorgio Morpurgo
